The Thief is an immersive, fully cast, low-fantasy mystery kicked off by the catalytic arrest of a City Watchman, whose obsession with the disappearance a Lady-in-Waiting is left to the only person he trusts: an undermarket draw-latch called Symphony.
The Thief is a Dungeons and Dragons Actual Play edited to within an inch of its life: fully cast, fully immersive.
From table-to-ear the experience is pretty indistinguishable. Every NPC I play is rescripted and turned into a character played by a paid voice actor. Where a player might say "I walk across the room," I use footsteps - or just imply from the story's inertia. My goal is to translate what's happening at the table into what we're imagining at that time, with all the drama and suspense.
One thing that differentiates this show from other actual plays is that there is only one player, Sisi Wei. It is low fantasy, there is no high adventure, no magic, and it's a "serious story." The bard isn't seducing the dragon, it's a story about an abduction.
